After booking the annual trip to the Isle of Bute this summer, my mind turns to thoughts of spinning for Pike on Loch Fad or trying for wrasse off the rocks. Plugs, spoons, jerk baits, streamer flies, shooting heads and multipliers, the fishing bag is going a little more modern as I will be spinning and fly fishing for a week on the west coast in August.

Hi Shaun,
28g Toby, my favourite casting weight for a long cast. I’ll make sure there are some silver and blues in the bag.

The silver and blue is my favourite lure for casting into the sea. I have had some great sport with those off the beaches and the rocks with mackerel, pollack, garfish, bass and even a few cuttlefish on them. Great fun on a light rod and minimal kit.
I did lose a huge pike at Llandegfed on a 28g Zebra Toby and a few minutes later a friend of mine landed a 43lb’er hooked almost exactly where I had lost the fish…
